The relay goes in front of the battery under the gas tank.
You don't have to fully remove the tank, just remove the mounting bolts and lift/slide it up and forward about 6 inches / 15cm. I had my wife help me by holding it and we put a couple pieces of wood between the tank and frame to hold it up enough to get the relay in.
I'll see if I can find photos.

Edit: I was an idiot and didn't take any photos during install.
It was very easy to install once I got the tank up. I used the Kawasaki factory relay and USB plug. I left the plug under the cowl above the headlight and wired in a USB cable direct to my wireless charging Quadlock though. (inconsequential to the relay question)
Hi @PJFry, besides the two tank bolts under the seat what other bolts are required to be removed for you to left the tank to install the relay? I'm thinking about installing the oem usb and relay as you did and any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

no need to remove the tank, fish around inside there a little. You will certainly find some wires. theres 2 for relays and 2 for diagnostics
Thanks @cashbrook28 , I'd prefer not to, however based the the directions for the relay that I've seen online it appears that the relay connector sits underneath a panel under the tank. Is that not the case?

You know, it was almost a year ago and have had that tank off a couple times now. I honestly cannot recall.

After referring to my service manual, it does seem to be tucked back far enough removing the tank is the route. I apologize for my earlier comment. After adding all the aftermarket mods I have, I forget what all I had to do for everything lol.
NP at all. I'm still curious if I remove the two tank bolts underneath the seat, how does the tank actually lift unless there is a pivot point at top of the tank or there would need to be other bolts holding the tank towards the front. This was what I originally wanted to confirm.

the other end of the tank has a rod that slides into a rubber bushing, so yes you can lift it a few inches. It would be handy to have someone that can lift the tank and hold it like was commented earlier.
Appreciate it @cashbrook28. Yes I'll have someone hold it and/or I'll have something underneath to hold it up without scratching things up.
