Hello Everyone,

I installed a phone holder on my new bike, but unfortunately it drains my phone battery relatively quickly when I use the navigation. I'd like to install a USB socket, but to do that I found out that a relay needs to be installed as well, but I couldn't figure out where I should mount it. So my question is does anyone have any idea where the socket for this relay is located?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Kawabunga thank you!
I also thought it would be located somewhere under the seat, but I can't find anywhere the relay could be placed. At first I thought it was supposed to be put on that socket in the picture below, but subsequently realized they were for diagnostics. So I decided to ask though if anyone has run into this problem already.

Hi @cashbrook28
Thanks for the help and the detailed explanation. I have already connected my phone mount to the connector that is behind the headlight, connecting it like you did I just put the pins in. I just couldn't find where the connector for the relay was as my next step was to look for it somewhere under the tank. This is the mount I connected not perfect but it works.

In the picture you can see the connector, it might be useful to someone who decides to use it.

You can do it without a relay. Don’t buy the one from Kawasaki. Just buy a small one off EBay that mounts to the handlebar bolts. It’s very easy to do.
Yes I was also thinking of directly connecting the phone stand without a relay but then I might drain the bike battery if I forget to stop the stand as it consumes current albeit a little. So I preferred to do it with the relay.

The relay goes in front of the battery under the gas tank.
You don't have to fully remove the tank, just remove the mounting bolts and lift/slide it up and forward about 6 inches / 15cm. I had my wife help me by holding it and we put a couple pieces of wood between the tank and frame to hold it up enough to get the relay in.
I'll see if I can find photos.

Edit: I was an idiot and didn't take any photos during install.
It was very easy to install once I got the tank up. I used the Kawasaki factory relay and USB plug. I left the plug under the cowl above the headlight and wired in a USB cable direct to my wireless charging Quadlock though. (inconsequential to the relay question)
Thanks for the additional clarification. I also thought that it would be necessary to remove the tank, but if it is possible to install the relay by just lifting it, that is very good. I don't know when I will do it, but I will take pictures, they might be useful to someone anyway.
